It is possible for a hunter with about item level 329 gear and without enchants to be averaging around 8-10k DPS on boss fights.
You should note that these numbers should be attainable regardless of group buffs; however, if your group has many of the most beneficial hunter buffs, you can go very higher. Then as your gear improves and starts becoming worthwhile to enchant and reforge everything into a more optimal state, you will start seeing your DPS climb.
